This morning I awoke to Cherice telling me there had been a frost, now the sun was melting it, there was mist everywhere, it was fall…I’m not sure if she was just being very efficient at getting me out of bed first thing or not, but it sure was a beautiful morning. I decided to only take my 100mm 2.8 macro lens as the colors of the fallen leaves were brilliant in the 90 degree lighting, and the landscape scenes outside the front door (which were in a 15 minute shooting range – for which the light would soon be gone) were not as picturesque as the analytics (details) of the scene. One of my first subjects was a leaf that looked like it was a dancing flame…very cool. Later, I found a really cool leaf with a blade of grass carrying many tiny beads of water across its back. However, upon refocusing I found another view of this same scene through a closer bead of dew, encapsulating the whole event. Although it is not large enough to show all the details, you get the general idea. I’m finding that the mornings are becoming more and more a better part of my day.

Breathe

Espen and I went for a walk the other day at one of the local parks to where we’d found a really cool bridge on an earlier bike ride. I’m constantly cruising past areas to check the colors these days, just in case a picture is waiting. Though the colors remained green, we had a lot of fun dropping leaves off the bridge and watching them appear magically on the other side. There’s been a lot of those magical moments lately, like when Espen discovered gravity. Sometimes I feel like I let life loose its sense of mystery, and I get swallowed in the atmosphere of labeling, categorizing, counting digits, and simply objectifying all of my experience. It’s times like that when I realize I usually need to slow down and breathe. For instance, I started rock climbing on a very consistent basis again (for which my arms have suffered severely!). Every time I’m in the midst of a climb I or my good friend have to remind me to breathe. Yeah, breathe. Funny, huh. Seems like something you don’t have to think about…you usually don’t. But I forgot for a moment, and needed to be reminded. I guess watching Espen’s eyes widen in curiosity and wonder reminds me of that experience in rock climbing. That I need to breathe. Enjoy life. Breathe. Watch the leaves float by. Breathe. Put my head on the couch when I’m tired and close my eyes. Breathe. Breathe…
